If you desire to worship God in a Gospel-centered Christian church, if you desire to serve your neighbors through active outreach ministries, if you desire to grow in faith through engaging Christian formation, if you desire a friendly community, if you desire to be part of a diverse and inclusive Christian church that truly welcomes everyone, come and visit Saint Anne's Church.
Established in 1705, Saint Anne's Episcopal Church continues the tradition of worship, service, learning, and fellowship that began when the first congregation of faithful Christians gathered here in Appoquinimy more than three hundred years ago and named their church Saint Anne's. As we did then, so we do now, we invite everyone to come and experience the saving grace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Come and see. Everyone is welcome.
Easter Sunday is the day when everything changes. No longer slaves to Sin and Death, humanity is set free by the power of God at work in and through Jesus Christ—Son of God, Word of God, savior of the whole world. The resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ—which we celebrate on Easter morning following the sacred events of Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday—demonstrates once and for all that life, and not death, is the deepest truth of every human life, and that divine love, and not sin, is the most powerful force in all of the cosmos. The mystery of Christ’s resurrection is the most wonderful, restoring, reconciling, life-giving event in all of human history. As much a mystery today as it was two thousand years ago, Easter remains the source of divine love and life that nourishes, nurtures, heals, and revives all who enter into it through the sacred rite of Holy Baptism. The Season of Easter, which lasts for fifty days and culminates with the celebration Pentecost, focuses on the sacred events that follow after Jesus’ resurrection, events that lead to the establishment of the Christian Faith and Church.
Located on the corner of S. Broad Street and St. Anne's Church Road, Middletown, Delaware
Established in 1705 in Appoquinimy (present day Middletown and Odessa), Saint Anne's Church has two historic sanctuaries in which to worship: the Town Church (which was completed in 1888) and Old St. Anne's Church (which was completed in 1768). Built on top of a hill at the head of one of the branches of Appoquinimink Creek, Old Saint Anne's Church is a beautiful 18th century American church building that stands surrounded by majestic trees and Saint Anne's historic cemetery. Special worship services are offered at Old Saint Anne's Church throughout the year on Sundays and Christian holy days. Please check the Church Calendar for our worship schedule. Private and community tours of the Old Saint Anne's are available by appointment. For more information, please contact the Church Office at 302-378-2401.
